2026-02-01
The World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) 2024 Campaign, under the theme “Working on the Future,” is a global UNESCO initiative that brings together young people, communities, and heritage professionals to protect and promote cultural and natural heritage. In 2024, the campaign will implement 90 volunteer action camps across 85 World Heritage sites and Tentative List properties in 41 countries, coordinated by 69 organizations worldwide. These projects provide hands-on conservation, awareness-raising activities, and opportunities for cultural exchange, allowing volunteers to gain practical skills while supporting local communities.
Since its launch in 2008, the WHV Initiative has empowered thousands of young people to actively participate in heritage preservation through concrete actions such as site conservation, environmental protection, education programmes, and community engagement. The campaign promotes international cooperation, sustainability, and youth leadership, helping to build inclusive and resilient societies where heritage serves as a source of innovation, identity, and shared responsibility.
The 2024 campaign also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the World Heritage Education Programme, highlighting the importance of education, youth empowerment, and global collaboration in safeguarding heritage for future generations. Volunteers from around the world will work closely with local stakeholders, contributing to meaningful and enriching experiences while strengthening awareness of the value of protecting our common cultural and natural legacy.
